Energy Trading Specialist

Position Overview
We are looking for an analytical and commercially minded Energy Trading Specialist to monetize Virta’s aggregated flexibility portfolio in electricity and carbon markets. In this role, you will translate available flexibility from EV charging and other distributed energy resources (DERs) into trading strategies, bids, and schedules across TSO/DSO/aggregator markets, reserve and balancing products as well as carbon trading.
You will report to the VP of Energy and collaborate closely with Flexibility Aggregation & Market Development, VPP Integration, Data & Analytics, Country Operations, Finance, and Risk to ensure that trading activities are profitable, compliant, and aligned with customer and partner commitments.
What You’ll Do
Develop bidding strategies for demand response markets based on historical and forecasted charging power capacity.
Submit bids to power markets based on forecasts and market developments.
Follow up on bid delivery, invoicing of delivered services, and partner payouts to ensure accurate and timely settlement.
Provide feedback and insights to product teams on how to improve the business and capture new opportunities.
Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for different emission reduction credit markets.
Create volume and profit estimations of emission credits for relevant markets.
Assist in enhancement of data collection tools for electricity emission credit reporting.
Coordinate the reporting of relevant information to contractual parties for monetization of emission credits (monthly, quarterly, yearly).
Facilitate the emission credit transactions with internal and external stakeholders.
Engage with regulatory authorities and governmental bodies to stay informed and influence on market rules and identify new trading opportunities.
Oversee auditing processes, including discussions and negotiations with auditors to align on methodology and agree on final reporting.
Conduct market studies and explore new potential trading opportunities
What We’re Looking For
In‑depth understanding of European (Nordic and/or Central European) power and energy flexibility markets, regulations, and industry best practices.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and compliance requirements (RED III directive, and the national emission reduction trading markets in the Nordics and/or Central European countries)
2+ years of experience in working with electricity market services, carbon credits or other related industry.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills; experience with data analysis tools (spreadsheets, BI). Scripting skills are a plus.
Ability to operate effectively under time pressure while making sound decisions within defined risk constraints.
Strong communication skills; able to explain complex trading concepts to non‑involved stakeholders.
Willingness to work time‑sensitive schedules or shifts where required by specific markets.
Fluent in English; Proficiency in French and/or German language are an asset.
Residency and right to work in one of our locations: Finland, Sweden, Germany or France.
